Move over microblading, there’s a new brow enhancement and it’s non-invasive and temporary. Meaning: no needles and not too long to wait if you’re unhappy with the look. So what is brow lamination, how long does it last and what’s involved? We break down the trend below.

What is brow lamination?

Brow lamination lifts the hairs of the eyebrows and smoothes them, filling in gaps and making brows look thicker and shinier. The final result looks like you’ve expertly applied brow gel or wax to already perfect brows. Want to see some examples? Simply search Instagram for #browlamination and you’ll have inspiration for days.

How is it done?

Eyebrow lamination is a two-step process that’s like a perm or a straightening treatment. The first step breaks down the bonds in the hair. Then, eyebrows are brushed into the desired shape. A second formula is applied to the brows that neutralizes the first and sets them in their new shape. Finally, your brow technician may add a tint or do some additional shaping with tweezers or threading.

How long does brow lamination last?

The treatment generally lasts between six weeks and two months. Extend the life of your treatment by using a brow wax daily.

Should I DIY eyebrow lamination?

“Brow lamination kit” is a rising search term. But this isn’t something you should do at home, especially without training. Remember that first step of the process? The bonds that hold your eyebrow hairs together are broken. If you’re DIY-ing this and mess it up, you could end up eyebrow-less.

We’re often asked why we don’t offer injectables or botox at The Freeze Clinic. People often want quick fixes. To look younger as soon as possible. And that’s fine. We get it. It’s just not what we do.

We focus on no-needle skin treatments because we truly care about improving your skin and complexion. Not just making you look better on the surface, but truly giving you better skin. We also put a lot of thought into every treatment we offer—and there are really only two facials, with a few different options. We are completely confident that both our FREEZE and Ultra-Cryo facials are safe and super effective. And don’t get us wrong, results are immediate, just maybe not as extreme as more invasive procedures.

Here’s how we look at things:
We are anti-anti-aging

As we’ve said before, we are all for the shift away from anti-aging. You can’t turn back the clock no matter how hard you try or how many injections you get. We want skin that looks great because it’s healthy and well taken care of. Even with a few fine lines, we glow from within.

Do you want to look better or feel better?

Think of it this way: let’s say you wanted to lose weight. You could simply eat a lot less. That would get the job done. OR you could exercise and eat a healthy, balanced diet and see where you ended up. You’d be strong, feel confident and look great in clothes. It’s the same with your skin. You can take the quick fix and look good but feel mediocre, or you can do what’s best for you body and look AND feel great.

Want to see and feel what our treatments can do? Book now! You won’t regret it…and we promise, no needles.

You’ve probably heard about retinol. It is one of very few skincare ingredients proven to improve fine lines, uneven skin tone and dark spots. Bakuchiol is the new natural ingredient that some are touting as the new retinol. Bakuchiol versus retinol: What do you need to know before you invest in new skincare products?

What is retinol?

Retinol is a form of vitamin A. It actually stimulates collagen production, but it’s not all sunshine, roses and youthful skin. Retinol is harsh and can cause dryness, rashes and irritation. Plus, the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep website, which rates the safety of beauty products and ingredients, rates Retinol at a six to nine.10 is the worst score. This is of course, based on usage and strength of the ingredient, so don’t toss your favourite retinol products just yet!

What is bakuchiol?

Bakuchiol is found in the seeds and leaves of Psoralea corylifolia plant or babchi. The plant is found in India and is used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. The Environmental Working Group gives it a rating of one. So, it’s considered extremely safe. It has been shown to have the same effects on fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation as retinol. A 2018 study had two test groups use either retinol or bakuchiol. The results were basically the same, except that the bakuchiol group didn’t experience flaky, dry skin.

If you’re looking for a serum to improve your complexion bakuchiol may be a great option. While not as strong as retinoids prescribed for acne, it may be effective in treating breakouts. There haven’t been any studies, but it’s certainly worth trying.

Looking for a complexion pick-me-up? Our FREEZE and Ultra-Cryo facials offer immediate results—brighter, healthier-looking skin. Plus, our expert staff can chat about the best products for your skin. Call us to book now!

Yes, it’s only January, but we’re already predicting what the year to come will hold. Especially when it comes to our skin and makeup. Make a resolution right now to try one of these beauty trends for 2020.

Less is More

Being green is finally trending and people are extending their eco-friendliness to beauty routines. While we love our skincare rituals, it looks like it’s time to say goodbye to 10-step regimens. Too many bottles, too many products. For 2020, we predict that people will spend a bit more on a few great products. And they’ll save SO much time, too!

CBD Skincare

Searches for “CBD Skincare” increased by 367 percent in 2019, according to Harper’s Bazaar. And while this is a worldwide trend, it’s particularly relevant in Canada, where Cannabis is legal. CBD is a natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, so it makes a great addition to skincare products. We think it will continue to be one of the top beauty trends for 2020.

Sensitive Skin is In

In 2019, 60 to 70 percent of women claimed to have sensitive skin. As we’ve mentioned, most people who think they have sensitive skin don’t, but that doesn’t stop people from thinking that they do. What can sufferers do about reactive skin? Use fewer products (see above) and use cleaner products. It’s likely that people who are breaking out in rashes and redness are just not being gentle enough with their skin. So in 2020, ignore the silly beauty trends and do what your skin really needs (a FREEZE facial could help)!

Polished Brows

Good news for those who’ve had their brows microbladed: thick, natural brows are still in. But this year, it’s less about messy eyebrows and more about structured-looking brows. This is a simple trend to jump on, simply buy a clear brow gel to keep everything in place. Want to grow your brows in thicker? Visit us and pick up a tube of Eye Envy, which works on both lashes and brows.

Hydration is Everything

The top skincare trends of 2019, like Cloudless Skin and Glass Skin were all about clear, hydrated, even dewy complexions. We predict that ultra-hydrated, healthy-looking skin will continue to trend in 2020. And really, who doesn’t want a beautiful complexion?

Visit us to try our signature FREEZE facial or our new Ultra-Cryo facial and we’ll help you get the look!

You can stop gift shopping now. We have the perfect skincare gifts…and really anyone with skin, so everyone. We don’t just offer facials at The Freeze Clinic. We sell a selection of the best beauty products around. And we only sell products we use ourselves and love. So you can be confident that they’ll not only work, but that they’re also cruelty-free!

Here are our 5 favourite skincare gifts this holiday season.
The FREEZE Microdermabrasion Polish

Excuse a little self promotion here, but our microdermabrasion polish is quite simply perfect. It can be used a few times a week and gently exfoliates to reveal brighter, more even-toned skin. Plus, natural Avocado, Jojoba, Hemp and Grapeseed oils, plus 4% Shea Butter and Vitamin E add moisture. Tip: Use a moisturizing mask after exfoliating for even more dramatic results.

Coola Rose Essence Tinted SPF 20

This is the skincare gift that gives in so many ways. First, it’s an SPF, which you need to wear all year long. Yes, even in the winter. It’s also a mineral sunscreen, meaning that it’s totally safe, unlike chemical sunscreens. It smells divine—if you don’t already know, we have a thing for roses. Finally, it’s tinted, so you can skip your foundation. One step, so many benefits. Who wouldn’t love this gift?

Eye Envy

We adore Eye Envy. Longer lashes in six weeks? Who wouldn’t love it? This product is so simple. You apply it on your top lash line once a day every morning for three months (although you’ll start to see results in six weeks). After three months, apply only every other day to maintain your newly lengthened lashes. You can also use it on eyebrows!

Graydon Fullmoon Serum

Retinol can get a bad rap and for good reason. Depending on the strength of the ingredient, it can give you dry, scaly skin. Graydon’s moisturizing Fullmoon Serum includes collagen, vitamin C, peptides and anti-inflammatories. It protects skin while delivering powerful ingredients that combat the signs of aging.

FREEZE or Ultra-Cryo Facials

These are the skincare gifts that will really impress. While one of the luxurious products above will obviously be appreciated, there’s nothing like one of our facials. Soothing, relaxing and most importantly, effective, our facials really do work. Results are visible immediately and only improve over the next few days. Want to really wow your loved ones? Buy them a package of three or six facials and save money doing it!

At The Freeze Clinic we offer only services we believe in and that actually work. It’s important that our facials are relaxing, comfortable (not painful) and effective. We’ve taken our favourite skincare techniques and have combined them into facials you’ll love. But there’s one exception. We adore derma rolling and truly believe in its benefits. But we have not included the professional version of treatment in any of our services. Why? Professional microneedling services are just too intense for the skin. They’re uncomfortable and can involve redness or irritation afterwards. We like our clients to leave The Freeze Clinic glowing.

The good news? We sell a selection of products (including our own) that we love and again, that actually work. Our favourite derma roller is among them. So, what is derma rolling and what’s the difference between derma rolling and microneedling? Read on.

Derma Rolling

Derma rolling and micro needling both involve tiny needles (0.1 or 0.2 mm) that puncture the skin. A derma roller is like the oh-so-popular jade roller, but with medical grade needles (and actual results). It’s a DIY procedure. You roll the derma roller gently over your skin. The punctures made are very shallow so are virtually painless.

Microneedling

Micro needling is done in a skincare clinic by a professional. A derma pen or microneedling pen is used. It’s a handheld, electronic device  that punctures the skin with very fine needles. Sometimes numbing cream is used on the skin prior to an appointment to prevent pain.

What are the benefits of Derma Rolling?

When the needles puncture the skin they create tiny wounds that activate collagen production and healing. Regular derma rolling—once a week or so—can lead to a more even skin tone, reduction in scars and fine lines, thicker skin and improved product absorption.

What you need to know before you try

Skin should be thoroughly cleansed before using your derma roller. Wash your face and then follow with an antiseptic cleanser. You should not use a derma roller if you have cystic acne or open wounds as bacteria will spread around your face. When you’re done, the derma roller should be thoroughly cleaned with an antiseptic product.

Want to give it a try? Visit us and we’ll be happy to talk you through it and show you the derma roller we love!

The latest trend in skincare is Glass Skin. Like Cloudless Skin, it’s inspired by K-Beauty products and trends. It may not sound so pretty—all jagged edges—but glass skin actually has a transparent shine, invisible pores and a youthful glow…as if the complexion was made of glass. The look is shiny and super moisturized. It’s about healthy skin with as little makeup as possible. Healthy, beautiful skin? This is a trend we can get behind.

So, how do you get Glass Skin?

While a good foundation and a great illuminating highlighter can help you fake the look, the real deal comes from simply taking good care of your skin. And hydrating. A lot. That’s where the shine comes from: lots of moisture. Skin should also be smooth and bright so exfoliating regularly is key. The face should be thoroughly cleansed daily. And, if you follow multi-step Korean beauty routines, a toner and serum should follow. Then, moisturizer—and lots of it. Of course, doing this once won’t get you glass skin. You’ll start to see results in a week or two.

Want instant Glass Skin?

So, we’re big believers in having a good skincare regime. We’re not suggesting that you pass up a daily routine for a facial that will get you glowing skin in an hour. BUT, if you’d like to get glass skin while properly cleansing and moisturizing your skin, we have the solution. Our new Ultra-Cryo Facial will give you smooth-looking, ultra moisturized skin. The best part? The results improve over the next four days. The Ultra-Cryo Facial includes cleansing, gentle enzyme peel, a cocktail of custom serums, cryotherapy, ultrasound, marine collagen mask and LED light panel plus oxygen infusion. It’s luxurious and painless.

We launched a brand new treatment at The Freeze Clinic and it’s kind of big deal. We’ve had one signature treatment since we launched (with a few add-ons or variations), but our cryotherapy treatment featuring ultrasound facial technology is totally new. So what’s involved and why will it give you your best skin ever?

The Cryotherapy Facial includes:
  • Cleansing
  • Gentle Enzyme Peel
  • Cocktail of custom serums
  • Cryotherapy
  • Ultrasound
  • Marine Collagen Mask
  • LED Panel plus Oxygen

And while all of these treatments are well, a treat, the Cryotherapy and Ultrasound are worth discussing in detail.

Cryotherapy

Exposure to subzero temperatures triggers vasoconstriction—tightening of microcirculation blood vessels—and then dilation of blood vessels and capillaries. This helps to flush toxins and impurities away from the skin. The process encourages collagen production and increases the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines, sun spots and dark circles. The cold also helps to tighten the skin and relax the face muscles.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a vibration wave. It is created when electrical energy is converted to mechanical energy.  Our Ultrasound wand contains Piezoelectric Quartz Crystals that transform electrical current into a continuous pulse that helps skincare treatments move much deeper into the skin than they would with typical at-home daily use. With ultrasound, we can achieve in five minutes what would take five weeks to achieve at home. The vibrations from the ultrasound also increase blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, which increases collagen production and cell regeneration. Immediate results include more contoured facial structure, decreased redness, firmer skin and improved hydration. In two the seven days after treatment, clients can expect smoother skin, lightening of pigmentation and scarring, decreased appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and fewer breakouts.

Our new Cryotherapy Facial is $199. Want one right away? Book now!

You already know we like our facials and lasers cold. We’re not called The Freeze Clinic for nothing. Well, we are launching a new facial that’s so on-brand, it’s perfect. Introducing the Cryotherapy facial.

What’s Cryotherapy?

You’ve probably heard about full-body cryotherapy. It involves sub-zero temperatures applied to specific body parts or the whole body for health benefits. These benefits include improving mood disorders, reducing pain and inflammation and helping to heal sore muscles.

Our treatment, of course, is focused on the skin. And there are even more benefits for the complexion. And celebrities, like Robin Wright and Jennifer Aniston and Vogue magazine agree.

Benefits of a Cryotherapy Facial
  • Cellular replenishment
  • Detoxification
  • Collagen stimulation
  • Enhanced microcirculation
  • Tighter, fresher appearance
The Age-Defying Effects of Cold Shock

For millennia, different cultures have understood the benefits of a dip in very cold water. The central nervous system is awakened. It releases endorphins and anti-inflammatory agents into the body. Plus, the extreme skin temperature change alerts the brain to increase circulation. Nutrient-rich blood from the body’s core moves to the skin’s surface, flushing it with warmth and nourishment.

The Cleansing Cascade

After a short period of cold therapy, the skin experiences more benefits as it warms back up. As circulation returns to normal, the body flushes toxic wastes and bad cells. All these benefits happen in a matter of minutes. And without affecting the body’s core temperature. Plus, you experience a relaxing, soothing treatment.

Collagen and skin cells are replaced and rejuvenated during a cryotherapy facial. The result: a tighter, fresher and more luminous face for you to meet the world with.

Want to give it a try? Until October 11, add a Cryotherapy treatment to your FREEZE facial and receive 50 percent off the add-on. Plus, the first 10 people to book their cryotherapy add-on will get theirs free.

Our full Cryotherapy Facial launches in October and will include a gentle peel and ultrasound therapy.

Call or email and we’ll book you in!

No innuendos here. While August temperatures may get you hot and bothered, we are simply focused on the wellness benefits of cold showers. And there are plenty. Plus, cool showers aren’t as bad as you think, especially when they start out hot, as usual, and you slowly transition to more frigid temperatures. This is how James Bond showered, so it can’t be all bad, right?

Here are five reasons you should take cold showers:
Cool Off

Cold showers simply help you cool down when it’s hot outside. Sure, you could run your wrists under cold water or have an iced drink, but a cold shower cools your whole body down—and quickly.

Hair That Shines

Cold water tames frizzy hair by sealing the cuticle, making each strand appear smoother and shinier. So shampoo with warm water, condition and then rinse your conditioner out with cold for great hair days.

Immune Boost

Want fewer colds and flus? A British study showed an increase in white blood cells, which fight diseases, in those who regularly took cold showers. Another study showed that cold showerers missed work less.

Stress Less
Cold showers stimulate the vagus nerve, an important part of our nervous system that regulates heart rate, blood pressure, digestion and more. When you strengthen your vagus nerve, you strengthen your body’s ability to lower your heart rate and reach a resting state. This means that even when stressed out, you’re able to calm yourself with some deep breathing.
Glowing Skin
We couldn’t forget great skin, could we? We’re fans of all things cold and showers are no exception. Cold temperatures on our skin help improve circulation, making us look healthier. Hot water can exacerbate skin conditions and strip your skin of natural oils. Cold water retains a healthy, balanced complexion.

Want a cooling facial experience for instantly glowing skin? Book a FREEZE facial ASAP!
