When did you start taking care of your skin? It probably wasn’t until you started getting pimples, but it should have been before your first pimple surfaced. Times have changed though. It seems that the teens and tweens of Generation Z are already consuming skincare and beauty products regularly. Thanks, in part to social media, beauty spending by teens rose 20 percent last year.

When it comes to facials for teens, what’s the right age? And what kind of facials should teens be getting?

With puberty hitting earlier and earlier, particularly with girls, the right age for a facial can range from 10 to 15. Typically, you want to treat your skin before it becomes a problem. With hormone changes and increased sebum production, pimples can come on quickly. Sage advice? Start considering facials for teens when skin starts to look oiler and needs to be washed regularly—or when the teen is wearing enough makeup to need a good cleansing at least once a day.

What type of facials should teens be getting?

While many people with pimples tend to focus on extractions to clear their pores, we don’t recommend them. Even when done by a professional, more pimples or even scarring can occur. Gentle exfoliation and complexion-specific treatments are all teens need for a first facial.

The Freeze Clinic now offers a few different treatments based on our signature FREEZE facial. Since teens don’t need microcurrent to firm and tighten, we suggest our Freeze Facal Lite with microdermabrasion to gently exfoliate and remove impurities and oxygen infusion. Oxygen helps skin to absorb active ingredients and refreshes dull complexions. Another Freeze treatment that’s perfect for acne-prone teen skin is our Skin-Tox treatment. Lymphatic drainage helps remove impurities from the skin, diamond microdermabrasion exfoliates, oxygen infusion with antibacterial mist fights future breakouts, vitamin C serum and facial massage help protect skin and further detoxify and finally, our detoxifying LED light panel fights breakouts and leaves skin looking fresh.
